***Update*** It took 3 months but I finally received the x60 tablet and love it! While there certainly were a LOT of delays earlier on Lenovo seems to have fixed them and now everything should be going smoothly. I hope they learn from this and in the future do a better job keeping in contact with clients.

I am trying something a bit different for my site with this post. While I normally do some sort of technical article I am going to also do more blog style posts, in this case on a laptop that I am in the process of purchasing.

I want to say that ever since I purchased a used Motion Computing M1400 tablet back almost 2 years ago I have been in love with the tablet computer. While not for everyone as a biology student in undergraduate school there are many times when it comes in handy -- especially with all of the powerpoint slides we have! A few months ago I decided to sell it to my sister since the X60T, which was rumored to be coming out sometime last spring, would "be out soon". Fast forward 6 months and I finally placed an order in early December starting long process.

When they first released them on the Lenovo page they had not updated it from the X40T so the ship time was only 1-2 weeks, awesome I thought! When I called to order they informed me of the ~5 week ship time which while a lot is reasonable for a newer laptop. Fast forward to Jan 10th, 6 days before I am supposed to get the laptop, and in my email I recieved an updated notice - this time it is going to be shipped out Feb 7th a very far cry from the 16th and just a few days shy of 2 months.

Not in the best of moods I called up Lenovo and got a hold of a very good rep who explained that it was some supply problems with the LCDs. Apparently the SXGA screens, notice how they are not available, are not even at the Lenovo assembly factory yet. They were supposed to already be in but for some reason they are expecting another 1-2 weeks before they get delivery of them. So now here I am getting to start another semester without the tablet that I was positive I would get in time.

On the bright side of all of this IBM/Lenovo was up front about the problems. I was actually very worried the SXGA disappeared from the order page simply because they were having problems or found a flaw in the design, hopefully that is not the reason the manufacture is late on shipping them.

With luck first week or the early second week in Feb I will get the Thinkpad, I just hope it will be worth the wait.
